Most people who read the column have already heard this - Shaun is
retiring the Outpost Gallifrey brand as we know it in September,
freeing time for his life and needs. Some sections of his site will
continue - relaunched as 4 independent websites with people set up to
keep the sites alive and vibrant:
1) Outpost Gallifrey http://www.gallifreyone.com will now focus on
the annual Gallifrey One Doctor Who convention in Los Angeles, CA.
The next convention is in February (Gallifrey One's Nineteenth
Symphony 2008 - February 15 - 17, 2008), and I hope to be there with
my wife.
2) The Doctor Who News Page http://www.doctorwhonews.com will be the
continuation of the famous news page with its current team of
reporters, and the mirror of This Week In Doctor Who will be at this
location.
3) The Doctor Who Forum http://www.doctorwhoforum.com is the
continuation of the long-running Doctor Who fan board currently on
Outpost Gallifrey.
4) The Web Guide to Doctor Who http://www.doctorwhowebguide.com is
the massive section of links to Doctor Who websites of all kinds, now
maintained by Kenny Davidson.
If your website is linking to This Week via Outpost Gallifrey, make
sure you update the link as soon as the changeover occurs this month.
The This Week In Doctor Who Yahoo Group
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho was not part of
Outpost Gallifrey and is not affected by the change. I do finally
plan to update the front page though, whenever I can clear time in my
life.
I would like to take a moment to thank Shaun Lyon for all the help
and support he has given This Week In Doctor Who over the years.
Shaun has been a supporter of the column from the beginning. He
included it in his Doctor Who Alliance Newsletter (1998 to 2001) and
various stints as part of the news at Outpost Gallifrey
http://www.gallifreyone.com . He was one of the people who helped out
significantly with advice and patience during the early days of this
operation, and TWIDW would not be what it is today without him.
And now, back to schedules.
BBC Prime http://www.bbcprime.com premieres its run of the
Christopher Eccleston Doctor Who episodes tonight. BBC Prime serves
Mainland Europe, Africa, and portions of Western Asia. The episodes
are airing commercial free followed by the cut down versions of the
matching Doctor Who Confidential episodes. Depending on where you are
in BBC Prime's footprint, you may or may not have gotten to see the
new Doctor Who before. BBC Prime formerly aired the classic Doctor
Who episodes from 1995 to 2002. If you used to have BBC Prime in the
more Eastern regions of Asia, that service was folded into BBC
Entertainment, which already aired Series 1 and is now on Series 2.
BBC Prime's schedule used to be the same across the continents,
except that it was off the air overnight in Africa. The African
version now has a number of schedule differences from the
European/West Asian version, including the day/time of the Doctor Who
repeat. It will be treated as 2 channels in the column due to
schedule differences. The European/West Asian version is listed by
Central European Time, while the African version is listed by Central
African Time - they diverge in the Winter. Adjust for your local time
zone.
BBC Two sees a repeat of the animated story "The Infinite Quest" on
Sunday 2 September at 9:10AM BST.
BBC America's http://www.bbcamerica.com plans for Doctor Who Series 2 are becoming clearer. Episodes premiere at 7PM Eastern/4PM Pacific on Saturdays starting 8 September. Episodes repeat at 2AM Eastern/11PM Pacific. They repeat on Sunday and once the following Saturday, with the exact times moving week to week based on other programming events. Since the episodes already aired on SciFi, BBC America is leaving them out of prime time (where Series 1 ran) in favor of spinoff Torchwood, which will be having its US premiere on BBC America. BBC America still gives shows 46 minutes an hour versus 44 on SciFi, so nearly all the regular episodes will be complete (or at least more complete than SciFi's broadcasts of the same episodes). However, The Christmas Invasion will be heavily edited, as it will get a regular 1 hour timeslot, while SciFi aired it uncut in a 90 minute timeslot (with lots of ads).
Canadian viewers, take note:
1) Ztele http://www.ztele.com/index.jsp has begun airing Series 3 in French.
2) CBC http://www.cbc.ca/television will rerun the episode Gridlock on the 3rd of September, as they expect a sports match to either pre-empt Doctor Who entirely in Eastern sections of the country or cause them to be joined in progress. So, you either get the game or a repeat. Doctor Who is also pre-empted on the tenth for a Music Awards show. The last 3 episodes of the current series air on consecutive Mondays at 8PM starting on the 17th of September.
SciFi US http://www.scifi.com resumes Series 3 this Friday 7 September with The Family of Blood. Episodes will air each week through 5 October - Last of the Time Lords.
FYI - The Sarah Jane Adventures' broadcast schedule will be covered
as part of This Week In Doctor Who. We are still awaiting word on the
premiere date for Series 1. It is expected to start in the UK in
September or October and run through most of the rest of this year.
Torchwood schedule information is included in the Torchwood This Week
column http://groups.yahoo.com/group/torchwood .
